I told you yesterday that I was going to write today about a story about why I am on unpaid vacation, so here is my story...
I worked for an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Bangor, his name was Dr. Largey. His wife was one of my managers and Sharon was my other manager. I worked there from June 1, 2011 until August 14, 2012. In the beginning it was AWESOME working for them (PS. I was a Patient Care Coordinator...AKA, Receptionist) they were all SO nice and welcomed me with open arms, and I though that this was going to be my job for the rest of my college career...well I was wrong. I would work part time during the school semester, and full time during breaks and the summer. To make a really long story short, the doctors wife started getting REALLY secretive with my manager, would not let me present patients with their oral treatment plans, I basically became her bitch that she could use me whenever she needed some petty thing done. It got really annoying. To make matters worse, the doctor was a really mean person, he would be rude to his wife in front of me, he would call her into his office and scold her, and what REALLY pissed me off, if he was looking for a patient file and it was somewhere on his desk, he would call her in and place it DIRECTLY in front of him cause he would not take the 30 seconds to just look on his desk. UGH! Drove me nuts! So, since I was full time I decided to use my paid vacation, which was approved for August 15 through August 20, paid and approved, everything was a go. Well I ended up getting this job at a Law Office in Brewer as a secretary, which I am PUMPED about, but they wanted me to give my two weeks so I could start at the law firm ASAP. So I gave them my two week notice, but my paid vacation happened to land in the two weeks I gave...which I didn't think was going to be a problem, in Maine its considered wages earned and therefore legally, they need to be paid out whether I was going to stay or go. So I gave my two weeks and everything was hunky-dory but then, about 5 days before my last day my manager (Sharon, whom I love!!!! shes amazing) approached me and said they are revoking my paid vacation...so I was like WTF? Why? So I finished out my stint in hell, and on Wednesday I decided to approach the doctors wife...well she stated that i'm actually part time, not REALLY full time therefore I didn't earn it, she also told me that if I had given 3 weeks notice then they would have honored it....well HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT IF YOU DIDN'T TELL ME!?!?!?!? and basically there was immense amount of BS that came out of her mouth. I hope that she realizes what she did and how this makes her and her practice looks...I wonder if she knows that because she revoked my paid vacation I wont be able to afford my rent or most of my bills? So here I am, on unpaid vacation...bored...waiting for monday to get here so I can go back to work.
Either way, this is BS and I felt like people should know what I went through so when people get a new job that they get it in writing if they are part time that they DO or DO NOT get paid vacation. My hiring papers state that I do, but its pro-rated, so basically they dangled paid vacation in front of my face, I went to grab it and they pulled it right away....completely rude.
COMMUNICATION PEOPLE....you must ALWAYS have communication, this place has NONE....I dont recommend this place to anyone....unless you are happy in a bitchy, backstabbing and petty place to work where you are never appreciated.
